I wrote a long time ago about the fundamental difference between direct and indirect manipulation of UI elements, and I can’t say that this video makes any difference to my opinion that we’ll likely always need both.

Switching between desktops or applications with a swipe of a couple fingers becomes second nature, and it looks like that’s being nicely integrated in Synaptics’ concept.Įssentially what they’re doing is just mapping your input on the large touchscreen into the normal touch driver the difficulty is probably the precision and filtering, determining exactly where that finger is so you can provide touchscreen-level accuracy. One of the things I love on my MacBook is the multitasking multi-touch gestures. I use a PC desktop and a Mac laptop, and each one is jealous of the other for several reasons.

These are just my issues, but I wanted to put them here because others may wish to know these things (as I would have liked to know) before trying to find it out for myself.I have to say that some of these things look extremely handy. edge swiping the charms when your cursor is on the LEFT side of the screen is painful (similar to above issue). Have to swipe from the top but then have to "move down" the cursor to the address bar to be able to type an address in. I'm cool with that but its frustrating for example in IE to this may be "just a thing" because of the differences between touch and cursor use. not being able to edge swipe from the bottom is annoying because of the limitations of cursor location. edge swipes are difficult to get right (maybe improves with time, but I'm still struggling to get it right after 3 days of constant experimentation) touching and double touching are often confused IMO the "tap clicks" are pretty slow to respond The driver, setPoint, or whatever its called, doesn't seem to be loaded (or kick in) until you have finished loggin in- meaning its behaviour is different in the login screen and for several seconds (so far I haven't got "advanced" features in underģ0 seconds after login - that's pretty poor), which is jarring and annoying but not critical. For reference - I got a t650 and have played with it for a while - I agree its good, but its not great.
